Antioxidant Resveratrol

The antioxidant resveratrol, is a phytoestrogen that is found in red grape skin. It can also be found in knotweed, peanuts, mulberries, and red-wine. Isolated in 1940, resveratrol is a constituent from the roots of white hellebore. Plants will begin to produce resveratrol to fend off against fungi and bacteria that is caused by severe weather and pollution.

antioxidant resveratrolNovember 2006 was resveratrol's debut into the public eye. It made headlines when scientist's studied over-fed mice that didn't gain weight and slowed their aging process.

The antioxidant resveratrol has been found to stop and prevent the negative effects of a high-calorie diet in humans. Studies have also proven and demonstrated that resveratrol is a potent antioxidant for both humans and animals.

It has also shown to aggregate platelets that helps with the clotting of blood - As well as showing anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-cancer traits. These traits may help prevent and stop the free radical cell and tissue damage that is caused by elevated levels of blood glucose.

The high levels of glucose that are found in our blood are responsible for cellular damage and are associated with an increase risk of kidney disease, retinopathy, and heart disease. (This is why diabetics are at a much higher risk of those ailments)

Kidney disease can lead to kidney failure and retinopathy can eventually lead to blindness. Heart disease will eventually lead to a stroke or heart attack. Researchers have also found that resveratrol may be important for possible patients of alzheimers.

Numerous studies have indicated the health benefits of red wine and its consumption in moderation. Red wine is fermented with red grape skin; allowing it to produce the resveratrol.

However, consuming high volumes of red wine in a given period of time can hurt you. Always drink alcohol in moderation and remember that red wine will contribute massively to your daily calorie intake which will negate it's benefits.

In the future, usage for the antioxidant resveratrol or its similar compounds is proposed to be used as a therapy for vascular damage.

There is no doubting that the antioxidant resveratrol illicits powerful, positive effects but it is not the only antioxidant and if you want total protection from free radicals, it would be wise to look for a supplement that carries a variety of antioxidants to ensure optimum health!
